Description
Chemical Name: TAMSULOSIN (tam-SOO-loe-sin) FLOMAX contains a chemical called tamsulosin which is used to relax muscles in the prostate and bladder neck. It is used to improve urination and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) which is known as having an enlarged prostate in men. FLOMAX can help relieve symptoms such as fighting the need to urinate frequently or urgently, weak stream, difficulty in beginning the flow of urine, and the need to urinate during the middle of the night. Your healthcare professional may prescribe FLOMAX for other purposes depending on your medical condition. This medication should not be used to treat high blood pressure.

Directions
Your healthcare professional or your pharmacist will provide you with clear instructions on how to take FLOMAX. Your medication vial label should also have exact instructions for your reference. Generally, this medication is taken orally once a day. Most healthcare professionals will advise patients to take the first dose at bedtime to minimize the chances of dizziness or fainting. After the first dose, patients may take their regularly scheduled dose of FLOMAX 30 minutes after the same meal each day, or as directed by your healthcare professional. Patients must swallow the tablet whole - do not break, crush, chew, or open capsules before swallowing as it may tamper with the effectiveness of the medication. It is important to use this medication regularly to get optimal effects and results. It may take up to 4 weeks to notice an improvement in symptoms. Inform your doctor if after 4 weeks, your symptoms have not improved or have worsened.

Cautions
Although FLOMAX has many benefits to helping male patients fight the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), it may not be the right treatment for you. Before taking FLOMAX, speak to your healthcare professional if you:
- take any prescription/non-prescription medication, herbal preparation, or supplements
- experience allergic reactions to any medications
- have a severe allergic reaction to any chemicals that are contained in FLOMAX
- have a history of liver or kidney problems, high or low blood pressure, or prostate cancer
- if you will be having a certain type of eye surgery or dental work completed
It is important for all patients to discuss their medical history with their healthcare professional in case FLOMAX may interact with other medication that you may be taking. Consult your healthcare professional before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medication.

Side Effects
As with any medication, there is the possibility of side effects with the use of FLOMAX. Talk to your healthcare professional if you experience a persistence of any of the symptoms below.
FLOMAX may cause:
- dizziness, lightness or fainting (likely when you start taking the medication) - Be cautious when driving or doing anything that requires you to be alert.
- drowsiness
- blurred vision
- a prolonged, painful erection & decreased sexual ability - If this is not treated immediately, it could lead to permanent sexual problems (impotence).
- back pain
- cough
- diarrhea
- headache
- runny or stuffy nose
- sinus inflammation
- trouble sleeping
- weakness
- blistered or peeling skin
Please note that the consumption of alcohol, hot weather, exercise, or a fever may increase the effects listed above. To prevent them, sit up or stand slowly, especially in the morning. Sit or lie down at the first sign of any of these effects. Ensure you have regular check-ups with your healthcare professional while using FLOMAX.
