Description
Artzal is a solution made of highly purified sodium hyaluronate (hyaluronan). Hyaluronan is a natural chemical found in the body and is found in particularly high amounts in joint tissues and in the fluid (synovial fluid) that fills the joints. The body's own hyaluronan acts like a lubricant and shock absorber in synovial fluid of a healthy joint. Osteoarthritis reduces your synovial fluid's ability to protect and lubricate your joint.

Directions
Your doctor will give you an injection of Artzal(25mg/2.5rnL) into your knee once a week for 5 weeks (a total of 5 injections). Your doctor may recommend a local anesthetic to reduce the possible discomfort associated with an injection.
The goal of Artzal is the relief of pain. You may experience some pain relief before you receive the full series of 5 injections. However, studies suggest that most patients experiencing relief do so after the full series of 5 injections. The actual amount and duration of pain relief varies from patient to patient. Immediately after you have the injection and for the next 48 hours, you may need to avoid activities such as jogging, tennis, heavy lifting or standing on your feet for a long time. All Injections must be injected by a practitioner who has medical and specialist training. The practitioner must be medically qualified.

Cautions
Do not use Artzal if the package is opened or damaged. Store in the original packaging below 25° C. DO NOT FREEZE. Do not use after expiration date indicated on package. Shelf life is 42 months.
Take care to remove the tip cap of the syringe and needle aseptically. Inject Artzal into the joint through a 22-23 gauge needle.
Inject the full 2.4mL in one knee only. If treatment is bilateral, a separate syringe should be used for each knee.
The prefilled syringe is intended for single use. The content of the syringe must be used immediately once the container has been opened. Discard any unused Artzal.
