Cautions
To ensure patients can safely take NEURONTIN, they should speak to their doctors if they have any of the following conditions:
- kidney disease
- liver disease
- heart disease
- (for patients with RLS) if you are a day sleeper or work a night shift
Additional safety information that patients should be aware of is this medication may increase or create thoughts about suicide. Patients should visit their doctor regularly and report any new/worsening symptoms such as: mood or behavior changes, anxiety, depression, or if you feel agitated, hostile, restless, hyperactive (mentally or physically), or have thoughts about suicide or hurting yourself.
Do not stop taking NEURONTIN for seizures without consulting your doctor because this can potentially increase seizures if you stop using suddenly. Contact your doctor if your seizures get worse or you have them more often while taking this medication.
Patients should not use NEURONTIN if they are allergic to gabapentin.

Side Effects
Common side effects may include blurred or double vision, cold or flu like symptoms, delusions, dementia, drowsiness, hoarseness, lack or loss of strength, lower back or side pain, swelling of hands, feel or lower legs and trembling or shaking.
Serious side effects may include increased seizures, fever, swollen glands, body aches, flu symptoms, skin rash, easy bruising or bleeding, severe tingling, numbness, pain, muscle weakness, upper stomach pain, loss of appetite, dark urine, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), chest pain, irregular heart rhythm, feeling short of breath, confusion, nausea and vomiting, swelling, rapid weight gain, urinating less than usual or not at all, new or worsening cough, fever, trouble breathing or rapid back and forth movement of your eyes.
Some side effects are more likely in children taking NEURONTIN. Contact your doctor if the child has any of the following side effects: changes in behavior, memory problems, trouble concentrating, acting restless, hostile, or aggressive.
