Description
Chemical Name: CLOPIDOGREL (kloe-PIH-doe-grell)
Plavix is a TABLET. It CAN be split in half.
Plavix is used to prevent strokes and heart attacks in patients at risk for these problems. Plavix is in a class of medications called antiplatelet drugs. It works by helping to prevent harmful blood clots.
Warnings and Precautions: BEFORE you use PLAVIX talk to your doctor or pharmacist if: You have had an allergic reaction to any of the substances contained in the tablets. You have a medical condition that is causing bleeding, such as a stomach ulcer. You are taking any other medications (such as acetylsalicylic acid (ASA), other drugs used to reduce blood clotting such as warfarin and heparin or Non-Steroidal Ant-Inflammatory Drugs [NSAIDs; drugs used to treat painful and/or inflammatory conditions of muscles or joints]), including those that you buy without a prescription. You are pregnant or become pregnant on PLAVIX, or you are breast-feeding. You have a recent serious injury. You have liver disease or damage. You have recently undergone surgery (including dental surgery). You will be having surgery. Your doctor may ask you to stop taking PLAVIX for 5-7 days before your surgery. You have a blood disorder that makes you prone to internal bleeding (bleeding inside any tissues, organs or joints of your body) or tend to bleed longer than 10 minutes without taking any drugs. While you are on PLAVIX it is important that you do not take any medicine other than that prescribed by your doctor. If you should see another doctor or a dentist while you are using PLAVIX, you should inform them that you are using PLAVIX.
Interactions with This Medication: Drugs that may interact with PLAVIX include: ASA, NSAIDs, heparin, warfarin, digoxin, theophylline, antacids (e.g. omeprazole).

SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking this medication includes excessive tiredness, headache, dizziness, upset stomach, stomach pain, diarrhea, constipation, and nose bleed.
