Description
BENICAR is a prescription medication that is indicated to lower blood pressure and improve blood flow. It belongs to a group of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. BENICAR works by blocking the action of certain chemicals that tighten the blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more smoothly.

Directions
It is viral to take BENICAR exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take in excess or fewer amounts unless your doctor changes your dose to ensure you get optimal results. BENICAR can be taken with or without food. Strictly follow your doctor's instructions about the type and amount of liquids you should drink while taking BENICAR. Tell your doctor if you have a prolonged illness that causes diarrhea or vomiting. Keep using this medicine as directed, even if you feel better. High blood pressure often has no symptoms. You may need to use blood pressure medication for the rest of your life. Additionally, your blood pressure will need to be checked often. Visit your doctor regularly.

Cautions
Before taking BENICAR, patients should tell their doctor if:
- they are trying to become pregnant
- are already pregnant
- breast-feeding or plan to breast-feed
It is important to tell your doctor about all the medicines you are taking, both prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems, liver problems, or if you have lupus.

Side Effects
The most common side effect of BENICAR includes:
- dizziness
- upper respiratory tract infections
- too much uric acid in the blood
- nausea
- cough
The above noted side effects may not require medical attention and may slowly decrease over time as your body adjusts to the medication. Other side effects not listed may also occur in some patients. If you notice any other effects, check with your healthcare professional.
